Callsheet: ‘A Unique SA film’

The biggest film industry newspaper in Africa, The Callsheet published the following news update on Woodwind:

Woodwind’s lead actor is Argentine actor Leandro Taub, stars as the poet Enrique Lin in Alejandro Jodorowsky’s current film Poesía sin fin (English title: Endless Poetry, 2016).

Now in the upcoming South African film, Woodwind (2017), Taub plays the composer Bonifaz who travels to India, while being inspired by three women who shape his journey from the holy city of Varanasi to the peaks of the Himalayas. A major theme in the movie is the impact of Indian classical music on artists in the west. This is a subject which debutante South African director Fin Manjoo developed, living closely with musicians in Vienna, Austria.

The film is shot by Swiss cinematographer Nicolas Joray (The Yellow Star, Bye Bye Berlusconi and Baltic Storm), who’s three decades of experience was invaluable during the most challenging conditions in India. Durban born director Manjoo is now based in Cape Town where the film was partly shot. The international cast and crew are from South Africa, the United States, Germany, Austria, Serbia, Switzerland, Argentina and India.

Fin Pictures completed the shooting (principal photography) of the feature film, Woodwind on October 30. The production has entered the editing process and is aiming at the most renowned film festivals worldwide for release around September 2017.
